Denver Nuggets release 1960s ABA uniforms
It's time to throw it back to 1967.
State of play: The Denver Nuggets are paying homage to the former Denver Rockets by releasing an orange Classic Edition Uniform for the upcoming season.
Flashback: The team debuted in 1967 as the Denver Rockets in the American Basketball Association (ABA) before switching to the Nuggets in 1974 to avoid sharing the name with Houston.
The big picture: Denver will sport the uniforms to recognize the 50th anniversary of the ABA-NBA merger in 1976, which also brought the Indiana Pacers, Brooklyn Nets and San Antonio Spurs to the NBA.
Zoom in: The new Nuggets uniforms are a modern take on the Denver Rockets' road attire — marking the first time the team will don orange, per a statement from the club.
- Denver will rock the new uniforms in seven home games and two road games, making their debut on Dec. 27 against Indiana.
What's next: The collection including jerseys, tees, hoodies and hats will be available online Monday.
